KGHS Freshman Transition

Our annual KGHS Freshman Transition will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at KGHS from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  This event is for 9th grade students.  Freshmen will be provided with a full-year class schedule and locker number to be used during the event.  Students should enter the building through the cafeteria entrance Friday at 10:00 a.m.  Parents are welcome to attend.  A panel discussion for parents will occur in the auditorium.

5th Annual College Application Boot Camp

The KGHS Counseling Department is excited to offer the 5th Annual College Application Boot Camp to rising seniors.  Boot Camp is designed to assist rising seniors with completing college applications, writing essays/personal statements, and planning for scholarship application submission.  Essay writing will be under the direction of an English teacher as well as the KGHS school counselors.  Seniors have two sessions to choose from:

August 4 and 5 - 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
August 4 and 5 - 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Students should sign up in the counseling office, by calling 540-775-3535 ext. 3201, or by emailing Mrs. Morrison at tmorrison@kgcs.k12.va.us.

College Application Boot Camp for Parents will be held August 9, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 221.

Senior Pictures

One of the most difficult tasks yearbook advisers encounter each year is the process of getting all the senior students photographed and in the yearbook within their yearbook deadline time frame. The solution is to get as many students to the camera as early as possible to alleviate the last minute rush to the deadline.  Seniors should plan to take pictures at KGHS:

July 12, 2016 10 AM-5 PM, or

July 13, 2016 9 AM-3 PM, or

July 14, 2016 9 AM- 2 PM.

The make up day will be August 31, 2016 from 9 AM-1 PM.  Specific information will be mailed home by Strawbridge Studios.  The contact information for Strawbridge Studios is 866-624-6229 if you need assistance.

On Jan. 7, 2016: Students will be able to access their scores and AP Potential information at studentscores.collegeboard.org. By Jan. 29, 2016 Educators will receive paper score reports.

Financial Aid Night will be January 7, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the KGHS auditorium.  This event is most useful for parents of seniors planning to attend any post-secondary educational institution and parents of juniors planning for submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in October 2016; however, all parents are welcome.  The presenter is from The College Place in Woodbridge.  Rappahannock Community College will have a representative at this event to discuss courses, programs, and tuition before and after the presentation.

PSAT - Wednesday, Oct. 14

Sophomores and juniors interested in taking the Wednesday, October 14, PSAT must sign up in the Counseling office. Registration fee is $20.  Cash, check or money order made payable to King George High School will be accepted. Registration deadline is September 18.

Going Green!

KGHS is going green!  Beginning with the 2015-16 school year, parents may opt out of receiving a paper report card.  Forms will be provided at the beginning of the year.  Parents may choose to opt back in to receive a paper report card at any time.  Please contact our registrar, Kelly Fronzo, for details.
