Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment Night

Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment Night will be held Thursday, April 16 at 5 p.m. at KGHS for all parents and students interested in learning more about the advanced coursework available at KGHS.  This opportunity will offer the following benefits:
1. Students and parents will be better informed about what KGHS has to offer.
2. Better preparation for the course(s). (Ex: books to read, work load, time management, etc.)
3. Expectations will be clearly defined and student-specific questions can be asked.
4. Academic and career planning for the student.
This will be an informal setting where parents and students are able to stop at tables staffed by each department (ex: English, Foreign Language, etc.).  There will also be a table for Rappahannock Community College representatives to explain the associates degrees and certificates, etc. available to our students.  The counselors will be available to make changes to course requests as needed.  Parents and students are asked to enter through the main office entrance at the front of the building..

Just for Juniors Workshop and Sophomores Shifting Gears

"Just for Juniors" workshops will be offered in March.  This workshop is designed for high school juniors who are planning to apply to four-year colleges and universities in the fall.   I will demonstrate how to search for colleges that meet your child's interests and needs, and learn to navigate college websites to find important admissions information.  We'll review the new essay prompts for the Common Application as well as essay prompts for popular colleges in Virginia.  Other topics include SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement, deadlines, and scholarships.  All of this information will better prepare students for the College Application Boot Camp offered in August 2015.
The dates for the "Just for Juniors" workshops are:
March 2
March 10
March 26
Students and parents may select one date.  Each workshop is offered after school from 2:45 p.m. until 4:15 p.m.

"Sophomores Shifting Gears (Some Assembly Required)" workshops will be offered in March.  This workshop is designed for high school sophomores and parents interested in understanding the differences between Virginia high school diploma options, post-secondary choices, and developing a junior year plan.
The dates for the "Sophomores Shifting Gears" workshops are:
March 3
March 11
March 19
Students and parents may select one date.  Each workshop is offered after school from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

"Getting to Know the SAT" will be held Saturday, April 25 at KGHS.  This is a great session for students who are new to the SAT.  The time is 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.  The cost is $20 per student.  Please sign up with Mrs. Morrison in the counseling office.
