We will have our annual College Panel for students wishing to talk to students who have graduated from KGHS and gone to college.  This event occurs during FLEX in the auditorium January 7, 2015.  This is a great opportunity for students to hear tips and lessons learned about college life.

Financial Aid Night will be January 8, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the KGHS auditorium.  This event is most useful for parents of seniors planning to attend any post-secondary educational institution.  The presenter is from The College Place in Woodbridge.  Rappahannock Community College will have representatives there to discuss courses, programs, and tuition before and after the presentation.

Special rate for college classes for KGHS students through RCC

KGHS students now have access to a new program called RCC Scholars.  RCC Scholars who receive high school permission from the principal will be eligible to enroll in evening and weekend classes at any RCC site, including the King George site.  Any class starting at 5p.m. or later during the week or all day Saturday will be billed at the special Scholar Rate of $10.00 per credit.

KGHS offers a significant amount of the coursework needed to complete a degree or certificate but no high school has the entire curriculum for an associate’s degree.  Enter RCC Scholars!  Students who need specific courses to complete the requirements for the associate’s degree or the general education certificate can now complete them at a modest cost.  Other courses and programs, such as EMS, web and game design, general engineering technology, and HVAC, are available without any limit as long as they start 5 p.m. or later, or fall on Saturdays.

Although the fall semester classes began on Monday, August 25, RCC has a 2nd 8-week session that does not begin until Oct. 21, and a number of other late-starting classes, so there are plenty of classes available for students.  RCC will continue to offer College Connection courses to KGHS students this fall as well.  We will announce those courses as soon as we have the details.  The RCC contact for Scholar Rate is our college recruiter and dual enrollment specialist, Hutt Williams, 804-333-6744 or hwilliams@rappahannock.edu.
